The mission of Live Oak Baptist Church of Crestview, Florida, is to be a dynamic spiritual organism empowered by the Holy Spirit to share Christ with as many people as possible in our church, our community, and our world.
Live Oak Baptist Church had its beginnings among the beautiful grove of Live Oak trees in an area that had become a final resting place for many. Nestled by the cemetery close to the Shoal River, people began to meet for worship on what later would become the property of Live Oak Baptist Church. At first, there were benches built between the trees for sitting. It is unknown exactly how long the people congregated in this manner before the body of believers was constituted as an official Church. Opinions vary, however, our Okaloosa Baptist Association has recognized the year of 1933 as the official constitution date of our Church and it is from this year we date our annual homecoming celebrations.
Live Oak Baptist Church’s first recorded pastor was a gentleman by the name of Luke Henderson. He served as what was commonly known as a “circuit preacher”, or one who preaches regularly in two or more churches during the same time frame. He is recorded as serving Good Hope Baptist and Holt Baptist Church during some of the time frame in which he served at Live Oak Baptist Church. His years at Live Oak are recorded from 1940 to 1962.
We are very happy to have you with us at Live Oak Baptist Church. We hope as we serve our LORD together that it will be as long and adventurous as our history.
May the LORD bless you and keep you.
